Steps
Step 1: Choose the Right Weed Mat
There are two primary options: Abmat Domestic Weedmat and Abmat Premium Weedmat. The Domestic Weedmat is ideal for general garden use and landscaping and is required to be covered for a longer life, while the Premium Weedmat, designed with extra UV stabilization and durability in mind, is perfect for nursery professionals.
Step 2: Measure the Area
Measure the area where you intend to lay the weedmat. Cut the mat to the appropriate size, ensuring enough overlap on all sides to completely cover the soil.
Step 3: Prepare the Soil
Clear the area of existing weeds and use a rake to loosen the soil. This will facilitate better root penetration for your plants.
Step 4: Lay the Weed Mat
Place the weed mat over the prepared soil, ensuring complete coverage. Allow the edges to overlap. To prevent the mat from lifting and weeds from growing, use Abmat weedmat staples. Place them at each corner and every 1-meter interval. Depending on the soil density, you can either push the staples in by hand or use a hammer.
Step 5: Plan Plant Locations
For new plants, create holes in the weedmat using scissors or a utility knife. Ensure the holes are large enough to accommodate your plants’ roots. If installing around existing plants, cut a straight line from the edge to the plant and re-join the pieces with staples.
Step 6: Plant Your Garden
Position your plants in the holes you’ve made, and fill the surrounding area with soil to anchor them securely.
Step 7: Cover the Mat
For an aesthetically pleasing appearance, spread a 5-10cm layer of mulch or pebbles over the weedmat. This not only enhances the visual appeal of your garden but also helps retain soil moisture and temperature.
By following these straightforward steps, you can effortlessly install Abmat weedmat in your garden. This will result in a weed-free landscape that remains visually appealing and easy to maintain.
